Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — A 14-year-old boy was found dead in the El Ojo del Agua lagoon in the community of Leona Vicario after entering the water without his family's permission. The incident occurred near a section with difficult vehicular access, adjacent to the Tren Maya railway tracks.
Emergency Response and Recovery Efforts
A group of youths accompanying the teenager reported his disappearance to emergency services after losing sight of him in the water. Specialized divers later located the body in a deep area of the lagoon.
Authorities, including firefighters, rural paramedics, municipal police, the National Guard, forensic personnel, and the Quintana Roo Attorney General's Office, responded to the scene to conduct necessary procedures. The body was transported by the Forensic Medical Service and placed under the jurisdiction of the Public Prosecutor's Office for legal identification.
Investigation Underway
The Quintana Roo Attorney General's Office has opened an investigation to determine the exact cause of death and clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident. Witnesses stated that the teenager lost visual contact with his companions and failed to resurface.
