Teachers in Quintana Roo to Strike Over ISSSTE Law Reform: What You Need to Know

Teachers in Quintana Roo, represented by Section 25 of the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE), have voiced their disagreement with the federal government's plan to reform the ISSSTE Law. The proposed changes include an increase in contributions for workers. As a form of protest, the teachers have decided to suspend classes this Friday to discuss their next course of action.

Arimael Salas Alcocer, the Secretary General of the union in the state, clarified their position. While they are in favor of a reform that enhances medical services and housing benefits, they do not agree with the increased contributions that would be required from education workers. Given the potential economic impact of these changes, they are urging for amendments to be made during the review of this initiative. If no changes are made, they are prepared to take action to protect the rights of SNTE members.

As part of their protest plan, banners expressing their dissatisfaction will be displayed at schools on Thursday. On Friday, all 1,905 primary schools across the state will suspend operations, affecting 341,679 students. Furthermore, on Saturday, a coordinated march involving 16,444 teachers and administrative staff will take place across all municipalities.
