Cancun, Quintana Roo — A taxi crashed into a palm tree on Kukulcan Boulevard in Cancun’s Hotel Zone on Saturday morning, prompting an emergency response but leaving the driver with only minor injuries.
The incident occurred around 7:40 a.m. near kilometer 10.5, in front of the Trattoria Limoncello restaurant.
According to initial reports, the driver of a Toyota Avanza operating as a taxi lost control of the vehicle, mounted the central median, and struck a palm tree.
After a call to emergency services, Tourist Police officers and traffic agents secured the area to prevent further risks to other drivers.
Paramedics also responded as part of the standard protocol. After assessing the driver, they confirmed he did not have serious injuries and did not require hospital transport.
The crash caused only material damage to both the vehicle and the urban infrastructure.
Preliminary information suggests the driver may have lost control due to excessive speed.
