Residents of Cancún's Supermanzana 96 district were left outraged following a suspected case of animal cruelty. The incident led to police intervention and involvement from the Animal Welfare Department. Locals from 18th Street and Chacmool Avenue congregated outside a building where it's believed a puppy was thrown from the third floor.
The alleged abuse was brought to light through a video shared on social media on Wednesday, September 23. The footage, captured shortly after 11 pm, appears to show the small animal falling from the building, leading many to believe it was intentionally thrown.
Despite the public's anger and attempts to identify the person responsible for the attack, no definite culprit has been found. Cancún Municipal Police officers and the Municipal Animal Welfare Department arrived on the scene to prevent any potential vigilante action from the crowd. Representatives from the Attorney General's Office of the State of Quintana Roo (FGEQROO) also attended the scene to initiate an investigation.
However, no individual was held accountable for the incident and authorities eventually left the scene. While local residents speculated about potential suspects, the video footage does not clearly show a person throwing the animal, and there were no direct witnesses to the incident.
The residents of the two apartments on the floor from which the puppy allegedly fell have denied any involvement. They suggested that the dog could have accidentally fallen from a window.
