Strong Winds and High Waves Forecast for Mexico’s Coasts on Monday

Cancún, Mexico — Mexico’s National Meteorological Service (SMN) warned Monday of cloudy skies, isolated rains, strong winds, and high waves across multiple coastal regions of the country.

Yucatan Peninsula Forecast

The Yucatan Peninsula will see partly cloudy skies with isolated rains in Yucatán and Quintana Roo, while Campeche is expected to remain dry. Morning temperatures will be cool, turning mild in the afternoon. Winds of 20-30 km/h with gusts of 40-60 km/h are forecast for Campeche, with similar conditions from the north in Yucatán and Quintana Roo. Coastal waves are expected to reach 1.5-2.5 meters.

Gulf of Mexico Conditions

The Gulf of Mexico region will experience cloudy skies with showers in Tamaulipas and Veracruz, particularly in the Huasteca Alta, Huasteca Baja, Capital zone, and Las Montañas areas. Tabasco is not expected to see rain. Morning temperatures will be cold to very cold in mountainous areas of Veracruz, turning cool to mild in the afternoon. Winds of 20-30 km/h with gusts of 40-60 km/h are forecast for Tabasco, with similar intensity from the south in Tamaulipas and Veracruz. Coastal waves in Veracruz and Tabasco will reach 1.5-2.5 meters.

Southern Pacific Weather

The Southern Pacific region will have partly to mostly cloudy skies with showers in Guerrero and Oaxaca, and isolated rains in Chiapas. Morning temperatures will be cold to very cold, with fog banks in mountainous areas of Oaxaca and Chiapas. Afternoon temperatures will be mild across the region, warm in coastal areas, and hot in Guerrero. North winds of 40-60 km/h with gusts of 70-90 km/h are expected in the Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec, with high waves of 3.0-4.0 meters in the Gulf of Tehuantepec.

Authorities recommend residents stay informed and exercise caution due to wind conditions and high waves, especially in coastal and navigation areas.
