Cancún, Mexico — Surveillance footage obtained by authorities shows that the suspect in the femicide of a 10-year-old girl entered the victim's home around 7:40 a.m. on the day of the crime. The incident occurred last Wednesday afternoon in Supermanzana 93, and investigations remain under the jurisdiction of the State Attorney General's Office.
Details of the Crime
Unofficial reports reveal that Adriel T. R., 32, the victim's stepfather, no longer lived with the girl's mother after a recent altercation led to the end of their relationship. The mother had expelled him from their home on 34th Street in Supermanzana 93.
At the time of the crime, the mother was working at a private security company she had established after leaving her position as a municipal police officer in Isla Mujeres. Due to an employee's absence, she had to cover the shift herself and left the house shortly before 7:00 a.m.
Adriel, who still had keys to the residence, monitored her movements and entered the home at approximately 7:40 a.m., knowing the child was alone. He retrieved a kitchen knife, threatened the girl, forcibly removed her clothing, and assaulted her on a bed before fatally stabbing her multiple times.
Evidence and Arrest
Under the influence of alcohol, the suspect reportedly fell asleep next to the victim's body. The bed was stained with blood, and the murder weapon—also covered in blood—was found nearby and secured as key evidence.
Sources close to the investigation indicate that the couple's conflict arose after Adriel relapsed into drug use. Upon discovering his substance abuse, the mother decided to remove him from the household, unaware he would later retaliate by killing her daughter.
Adriel was transported to General Hospital for medical treatment due to intoxication before being returned to the State Attorney General's Office. Authorities are awaiting the expiration of the 48-hour constitutional detention period to present him before a judge.
Prosecutors have stated they possess substantial evidence and multiple testimonies to seek pretrial detention, citing the suspect's dangerousness.
Official Response
Governor Mara Lezama has vowed zero tolerance in the case, declaring, "This crime will not go unpunished. The full weight of the law will be applied to this child femicide."
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to secure a formal indictment.
