Cancún, Q. Roo — With the Socca World Cup Cancún 2025 set to begin this Saturday, November 29, at the temporary stadium on Malecón Tajamar, featuring the opening match between Mexico and Belgium, a prelude event will take place this Thursday, November 27. The State Lightning Socca Tournament will include a total of 15 matches from 8:00 a.m. to 7:40 p.m.
The competition among Quintana Roo teams will be held in both the Infant and Open categories for male and female divisions, with squads from the municipalities of Benito Juárez (Cancún), Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos, and Tulum.
Infant Male Category
In the Infant Male category, there will be two groups of three teams each. Group one includes Cancún A, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum, while group two consists of Cancún B, Isla Mujeres, and Puerto Morelos. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Grand Final, scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
Infant Female Category
The Infant Female category will feature only the Tulum and Cancún teams, who will face off 50 minutes before the Infant Male final.
Open Female Category
In the Open Female category, Cancún A will play against Playa del Carmen, and Cancún B will compete against Tulum. The winning teams from these matches will advance to the Grand Final, starting at 6:50 p.m.
Open Male Category
Finally, the Open Male category will have three participating teams: Cancún, Playa del Carmen, and Puerto Morelos. The two teams with the most points will qualify for the championship match at 7:40 p.m.
