Mérida, Mexico — The State Government has inaugurated the expo-sale of pieces entered in the Yucatecan State Folk Art Contest and the Addy Rosa Cuaik State Embroidery Contest 2025. The event is part of the Mexican Textile Art Encounter "Original México."
Salvador Vitelli Macías, head of the Yucatán State Institute for Entrepreneurs (IYEM), emphasized that this exhibition was created to generate more spaces for the display and sale of crafts and to recognize the work of Yucatán's creators. "This is not the product of improvisation, but the result of coordinated work between state agencies, following the directive to offer concrete results to the artisans," he stated.
He reported that the exhibit brings together the talent of 524 artisans, whose works were entered in the State Folk Art Contest and the Addy Rosa Cuaik State Embroidery Contest. All the exhibited pieces are available for purchase, and if necessary, it is possible to request adjustments directly from the artisans, especially concerning garment sizes or characteristics, he indicated.
For her part, the head of the Secretariat of Culture and the Arts (Sedeculta), Patricia Martín Briceño, noted that the exhibited collection represents only a part of the total pieces entered, as approximately 20 percent were already purchased during the setup, demonstrating public interest and the quality of the works.
"This is the first time that the works from these state contests have been presented in a public space of this magnitude, which highlights the talent, dedication, and cultural value of our artisans," she added.
The expo-sale will remain open to the public at the Gran Museo del Mundo Maya until October 19, from 11:00 in the morning to 10:00 at night, offering local visitors and tourists the opportunity to acquire unique pieces of Yucatecan folk art.
