Sport Fishing Permits in Mexican Caribbean Range From 263 to 1,512 Pesos for 2026

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Sport fishing enthusiasts planning to cast a line in the turquoise waters of the Mexican Caribbean will need to pay between 263 and 1,512 pesos for their permits in 2026, according to state officials.

The Quintana Roo Secretariat of Finance and Planning (Sefiplan) announced the fee schedule, which varies based on the permit’s duration. A one-day permit costs 263 pesos, a weekly permit is 569 pesos, a monthly permit is 825 pesos, and an annual permit is 1,080 pesos. Permits for foreign visitors on fishing excursions lasting more than three days and up to one year are priced at 1,512 pesos per person, per trip. These fees include both federal and state charges.

The state’s 2026 Revenue Law projects collecting 999,744 pesos from the issuance of sport and recreational fishing permits.

Sport fishing tournaments have become a significant draw for the region. From the start of the current state administration through June 2025, 15 tournaments were held across six municipalities: Playa del Carmen, Othón P. Blanco, Isla Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, Cozumel, and Benito Juárez. Host locations included Playa del Carmen, Xcalak, Isla Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, Mahahual, Calderitas, Cozumel, and Cancún.

Notable events included the Cozumel International Billfish Tournament in Cozumel, El Dorado de Plata in Mahahual, La Diosa del Mar in Puerto Morelos, and the Torneo Internacional de Pesca Cancún in Cancún.
