Chetumal — One week before the official start of the year-end holiday period, tourist destinations in southern Quintana Roo are already reporting around 60% hotel occupancy, according to Raúl Andrade Angulo, president of the Association of Hoteliers and Tourism Services in the southern zone of the state.
The businessman stated that this occupancy will increase further, explaining that while there are reservations in Majahual, Bacalar, and Chetumal, the most significant uptick of the December season will be reflected on December 25 and 26, when occupancy is expected to reach nearly 100%.
He considered the expectations to be positive, given that the high season could extend through January and February, driven by the presence of international tourism.
Andrade Angulo noted that the minimal adjustment in lodging rates during this December season does not represent an impact for visitors, as these are prices established for the high season and are applied at the time of reservation.
In contrast, during the low season, rates decrease proportionally.
