Chetumal, Quintana Roo — A plan to turn the Laguna Guerrero ejido into a solar energy hub remains stalled, with the coconut producers’ representative saying he is unaware of any new clean energy investment projects announced by state officials.
Ruty Carlos Buenfil, president of the coconut producers’ association, said the proposal to make Laguna Guerrero the first solar ejido in the region has not progressed. He clarified that his group does not know about clean energy investment projects announced by the state government through investment coordinator Artemio Santos Santos for the southern zone.
“We have information that there is an intention to start projects in clean energy, but I consider it necessary to establish strategies so that this can land in the best way and resolve planning, land use, or investment problems,” Buenfil said.
He suggested these issues may have stalled the start of these investments, “so you should ask engineer Artemio.”
Buenfil recalled that there was previously an intention to invest in solar energy in the Laguna Guerrero ejido, and the necessary documentation and information were submitted to the Secretariat of the Environment (SEMA), but the project stopped.
“They were the ones who eventually issued the initiative. We delivered the corresponding documentation, and our responsibility is to follow up on it, but until now we have not been able to consolidate the issue since we failed to secure investors for the project,” he commented.
He insisted the project is lagging but said producers have not stopped pushing for it.
