Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — Authorities arrested six taxi drivers in the mainland area of Isla Mujeres after catching them with suspected drugs and firearms during an operation on the Punta Sam–Isla Blanca highway near Cancun.
The Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office reported that officers caught the suspects red-handed for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking and illegal possession of firearms.
Police identified the detainees as Alfonso N, Arturo Armando N, Alan Jesús N, Carlos N, Osneris N, and Mario Iván N. During the search, agents found several bags containing green, dry plant material resembling marijuana.
Authorities also seized two 9mm pistols with loaded magazines from Alfonso N and Arturo Armando N.
The operation resulted in the confiscation of five vehicles with Quintana Roo license plates allegedly used for illicit activities: a red Honda CR-V SUV, a red Seat Toledo, a gray Nissan X-Trail, a red MG5, and a red Nissan Sentra.
Initial investigations suggest the detainees were part of a “drug-taxi” network linked to the Sinaloa Cartel, used for transporting drugs and monitoring routes in strategic areas near Cancun.
Authorities are also investigating the possible connection of this criminal cell to a woman known as “La Pastrana,” who allegedly operates under the orders of a man identified as “El 15.”
The six detainees, along with the seized weapons, suspected drugs, and vehicles, were turned over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which opened an investigation file to determine their legal status.
