Shootout Leaves One Dead and One Arrested in Felipe Carrillo Puerto

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo — A shootout between police and suspected gang members left one man dead and another arrested during a major security operation in this Quintana Roo municipality on Monday.

The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. at a residence in the Cecilio Chi neighborhood. According to preliminary information, security personnel were met with gunfire upon arrival, triggering an exchange of shots.

During the operation, a vehicle sped from the property, crashed through a gate, and attempted to flee. The pursuit ended on 50th Street between 61st and 63rd, where the driver lost control while crossing a speed bump, colliding with a parked car and motorcycle.

The driver became trapped inside the vehicle and was seized by authorities. Two passengers exited the car and fled, firing shots at officers.

Unofficially, sources reported that other individuals escaped the area by jumping over adjacent properties. A second confrontation occurred during the pursuit, resulting in one of the alleged attackers being killed.

Authorities evacuated and cordoned off the area for several hours, closing both vehicular and pedestrian traffic while conducting investigations.

No detailed official information about the operation has been released. However, officials confirmed that Quintana Roo’s Deputy Secretary of Citizen Security, Fernando Viveros Hernández, arrived in the municipality to assess the situation firsthand and coordinate follow-up actions.
