Mérida, Yucatán — During a tour of Yucatán, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum inspected the progress of construction work on the Maya Train Cargo Distribution Center. The project is projected to connect the Port of Progreso with the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, thereby linking the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans in southeastern Mexico.

A Strategic Logistical Hub

The Maya Train Cargo Distribution Center is located in Poxilá, in the municipality of Umán. It is described as a strategic project intended to become the logistical heart for the movement of goods on the peninsula. The project, which involves an investment of nine billion 160 million pesos, aims to transform freight transport in Yucatán for the coming decades by connecting local production with the Port of Progreso and strengthening regional trade.

Furthermore, the center will function as a railway operations yard, enabling agricultural, industrial, and export products to reach national and international markets more quickly and efficiently. The project is integrated with the broader Maya Train initiative, creating an expanded transportation network.

Work Agenda Focused on Education and Infrastructure

Alongside the Yucatecan governor, Sheinbaum Pardo developed a work agenda focused on strengthening education and strategic infrastructure in Yucatán. Both authorities reaffirmed their commitment to social welfare, the expansion of public services, and the consolidation of priority projects for the region.

The president and the governor led a work agenda that included the delivery of Welfare cards to students benefiting from the Benito Juárez Scholarship at CBTIS No. 305 in Ciudad Caucel. They also supervised the construction of the new building that will house this school, located west of Mérida.

New Educational Institutions Announced

The federal president assured that more high schools will continue to be built in Yucatán near students' homes. "We are also going to build a Rosario Castellanos University, so that all young people in Yucatán have the opportunity to fulfill their dreams," stated Claudia Sheinbaum.

Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena highlighted the importance of this educational project for Ciudad Caucel, noting that previously “many young people had to cross the ring road to find a high school within the city or even in downtown Mérida, which represented a significant cost for families.”

He explained that currently more than 230 students are taking classes at an alternate location and that, once the new school is completed in a few weeks, it will be able to accommodate 900 young people in morning and afternoon shifts. "This demonstrates our president's sensitivity in investing the people's resources where they are most needed, to solve a problem for families in Ciudad Caucel," said Joaquín Díaz Mena.

Díaz Mena added that the distribution of the Benito Juárez Scholarship cards ensures that no young person will drop out of high school for economic reasons. He reiterated the call for students to complete their high school studies and continue with a professional career, because "education is the best inheritance their parents can give them."
