Vehicle Crash on Cancún’s Chac Mool Avenue Leaves Several Injured

Cancún, Quintana Roo — A serious and dramatic vehicle accident occurred on Sunday afternoon on Chac Mool Avenue, at the intersection with 20 de Noviembre Avenue, after a Seat Ibiza lost control and projected into the central lanes, colliding with a Nissan Versa that ultimately overturned on the pavement.

According to witnesses, the driver of the Ibiza was in the parking lot of the Héroes plaza, where citizens were helping push the vehicle because it wouldn’t start.

However, upon managing to start, the driver failed to control the unit, which abruptly moved onto the avenue, mounted the central median, and violently impacted the gray Versa traveling in the opposite direction.

As a result of the strong impact, the Versa lost stability and ended up overturned, generating panic among motorists and pedestrians in the area. According to preliminary reports, the driver of this vehicle allegedly fled the scene, presumably out of fear, as she was working as a digital platform driver and had passengers at the time of the impact.

Paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross quickly arrived at the emergency, providing pre-hospital care to both the passengers of the Versa and the occupants of the Ibiza, identified as responsible for the incident. After initial assessment, the injured were transported to a nearby hospital to receive specialized medical attention.

Meanwhile, elements of the Municipal Traffic Directorate cordoned off the area and carried out initial procedures to determine responsibilities. The roadway remained partially closed for several minutes, generating heavy traffic in both directions of the avenue.

Towing personnel arrived later to upright the overturned vehicle and tow both involved units to the impound lot, where they will remain at the disposal of authorities while the corresponding investigation is conducted.

The incident left significant material damage and several people injured, although no serious injuries have been reported so far. Authorities reiterated the call to drive with caution and maintain vehicles in optimal mechanical condition to avoid accidents of this type.
