Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Mexico — The Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) has initiated a public consultation process for the proposed “Nicté-Ha Photovoltaic Park” construction project. The project is located in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, 13.6 kilometers west of the municipal seat and 4.8 kilometers east of the community of Chunhuas, along Federal Highway 184 Muna-Carrillo Puerto.
The Nicté-Ha Photovoltaic Park is a proposed project for the Yucatán Peninsula consisting of 361,800 bifacial solar panels with a capacity of 242 Mega Watts. Its objective is to generate clean energy for southeastern Mexico. As the project has generated controversy over its potential environmental impact, this has led to the opening of a public hearing to hear opposition from environmentalists and the local Mayan indigenous community.
A document held by the General Directorate of Environmental Impact and Risk (Dgira) specifies that the project “consists of the construction, operation, and maintenance of a Solar Photovoltaic Park that will transform energy from solar radiation into electrical energy and requires a change of land use on forested terrain of approximately 431.04 hectares.”
The project, promoted by the company ZML Quintana Roo, S.A.P.I. de C. V., can be consulted starting today and will be available until Thursday, November 13. This is “so that any interested party can propose the establishment of additional prevention and mitigation measures, as well as the observations they consider pertinent, in accordance with the provisions of Article 34, Section IV of the General Law of Ecological Equilibrium and Environmental Protection and Article 41, Section III of the Regulations on Environmental Impact Assessment.”
Interested parties may go to the Semarnat Representative Office, located at Avenida Insurgentes Number 445, Colonia Magisterial in Chetumal, on business days during the indicated period and during business hours. The project can also be accessed on the website: http://www.semarnat.gob.mx/gobmx/transparencia/constramite.html, by entering the project key 23QR2025E0007.
In order to add the observations made by interested parties to the respective file and include them in the resulting resolution, along with the process of the public consultation and the results of the written observations and proposals, these must be submitted via the following electronic link: https://www.semarnat.gob.mx/gobmx/transparencia/consultas.html.
All proposals must contain the full name of the individual presenting it, or in the case of a legal entity, the name of the entity and its representative, address, and email address.
