Mexico City — Mexico’s Tax Administration Service (SAT) has activated the 2025 Annual Return Simulator for individuals, a tool that allows taxpayers to review preloaded information before filing their return for the 2024 fiscal year.

The application, available throughout March on the SAT’s website, helps verify income, deductions, withholding taxes, and provisional payments, aiming to help taxpayers detect potential errors before submitting their official return in April.

According to the tax agency, the simulator seeks to streamline compliance with tax obligations and reduce inconsistencies in the information registered by taxpayers.

Simulator Allows Review of Preloaded Tax Information

The system displays sections with preloaded data such as:

  • Registered income
  • Refunds, discounts, and bonuses
  • Authorized and personal deductions
  • Applied withholding taxes
  • Provisional and definitive payments
  • Tax losses from previous fiscal years

Lamberto Cruz, vice president of Professional Practice at the Cancun College of Public Accountants, explained that the simulator began operating this week so individuals can verify their information before the official filing period.

“Errors in preloaded income or withholding information are very common, so taxpayers should first check that all periods of the year are reported with correct amounts,” the specialist said.

New Simulator Features for the 2025 Annual Return

Among the improvements incorporated into the system is that each section must now be completed before advancing to the next, which helps reduce omissions when filling out the return.

Another relevant update is the breakdown of exempt income identified in payroll electronic invoices, making it easier for workers to verify their registered earnings.

Additionally, the SAT added suggested preloading of withholding agent information for taxpayers who file under:

  • Business Activity
  • Rental Income
  • Simplified Trust Regime (Resico)
  • Digital Platforms

This data is obtained through the withholding viewer, a tool that allows reviewing previously reported tax information.

Personal Deductions and New Sections for Interest Income

The simulator also includes improvements for taxpayers who receive income from interest from Popular Financial Societies (Sofipos), by enabling specific fields to capture taxable and exempt interest.

In the personal deductions section, the system will display receipts with inconsistencies in the “Unclassified” section, allowing taxpayers to reclassify or add them manually as long as documentation supports the deduction.

Key Dates for the 2025 Annual Return

The official period for individuals to file their 2025 Annual Return will be from April 1 to 30.

The SAT also reminded taxpayers that:

  • If the refund amount exceeds 10,000 pesos, the return must be filed with an electronic signature.
  • During March, preloaded information can be updated.
  • Failure to file the return may result in penalties for late filing and loss of automatic refunds for amounts in the taxpayer’s favor.

To support taxpayers, the agency has also enabled tools including:

  • Payroll viewer for workers
  • Receipt viewer for employers
  • Personal deductions viewer
  • Withholding viewer
