Same-Sex Marriage Applications Surge During Pride Month in Quintana Roo

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — The Civil Registry of Quintana Roo reported that 20 same-sex couples have applied to marry during June, Pride Month, reflecting growing recognition of marriage equality in the state.

Lizbeth Jiménez Cordero, director general of the Civil Registry, said the application process is carried out without discrimination and that legal requirements are identical for all couples regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Jiménez Cordero explained that the registry maintains a policy of equal treatment and non-discrimination. Couples need only provide standard documentation such as birth certificates, official IDs, medical certificates, and other administrative paperwork required by law.

She emphasized that same-sex marriage is a fully recognized right in Quintana Roo and that registry offices are prepared to serve all applicants with respect, sensitivity, and inclusion.

The surge in applications coincides with LGBTQ+ Pride Month activities, when many couples choose to formalize their relationships through civil marriage, she noted.

The director reiterated that the Civil Registry guarantees impartial service free from discrimination and runs information campaigns to educate the public about available services and procedures at any registry office in the state.

She invited interested couples to visit registry offices for personalized guidance on requirements, costs, and available dates, stressing that everyone has equal access to rights and services under Quintana Roo law.
