Cancún, Mexico — Emerging from the shores of Puerto Aventuras in the Riviera Maya, 18-year-old sailing prodigy Jerónimo Abogado has solidified his place as one of Mexico’s most promising athletes in the iQFOiL windsurfing class. His recent gold medal victory at the 2025 CONADE National Olympics secured Quintana Roo’s back-to-back championship in sailing, marking a pivotal moment in his young career.
A Crucial Test at the 2025 Pan American Junior Games
Abogado’s next challenge will be the 2025 Pan American Junior Games in Asunción, Paraguay, scheduled for August 9–23. The competition will pit him against top continental rivals in what he describes as his most significant event of the year.
“The Asunción Youth Pan American Games are the most important competition I have this year, where I will have the honor of representing Quintana Roo and Mexico,” Abogado stated.
He acknowledged the difficulties posed by Paraguay’s unpredictable lake conditions, characterized by light winds and unstable waters. “It’s a high-level event, and for me, it will be complicated because it’s a place with marginal conditions,” he said. “But we’re doing everything possible, training hard to arrive in the best shape and compete for a medal for Quintana Roo and Mexico.”
A Legacy of Sailing and Olympic Ambitions
Born in Mérida, Yucatán, but raised in Puerto Aventuras, Abogado grew up immersed in sailing culture. His father and grandfather instilled in him not only the technical skills of the sport but also a deep respect for the sea. Now, his sights are set on an even greater goal: the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
“The goal is to compete in Los Angeles 2028, and we can’t rest until we get there,” he declared with determination.
As a member of Mexico’s national youth team, his progress is closely monitored by coaches and federation officials. Each training session brings him closer to his Olympic dream.
