Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Reconstructing Smiles is one of the primary initiatives spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Playa del Carmen, currently providing treatment for approximately 50 children and conducting over 600 consultations to address cleft lip and palate conditions.

Preparing Surgeries with 20 Years of Follow-Up

Nicolas Solís, president of the Rotary Club Playa del Carmen, which has operated for more than 33 years with the steadfast goal of addressing community health needs, emphasized the program’s long-term vision.

“We’ve been in Playa del Carmen for 33 years. Our objective has always been to serve society, meet community needs, and focus on maternal and child health. Currently, our flagship project, ‘Reconstructing Smiles,’ prepares children with cleft lip and palate for surgery—a program designed for 20 years of follow-up,” Solís stated.

Collaboration with Monterrey’s Casas Azul Civil Association

The program, now in its fifth year, operates in partnership with the civil association Casas Azul of Monterrey. Its success has drawn patients from outside Mexico, offering treatment at minimal cost through cooperative agreements.

“We serve all types of patients, including those from abroad. The cost is minimal, thanks to our collaboration with Casas Azul de Monterrey, which we’ve worked with for five years under a 20-year agreement. This is one of our most significant projects,” Solís added.

The initiative underscores the Rotary Club’s commitment to transformative healthcare solutions, ensuring long-term support for affected children and their families.
