Cancún, Quintana Roo — The rainy season has begun in Quintana Roo, but moderate winds have allowed the nautical tourism sector to keep operating at reduced capacity, with restrictions in place for smaller vessels.
Winds Allow Partial Operations
Francisco Fernández, president of the Quintana Roo Nautical Association, said the winds have so far not reached the intensities the sector had expected, which has allowed tourism services to continue.
He said a navigation restriction remains in effect for smaller boats, so companies are operating at roughly 60 percent of their capacity.
Demand Holds Between 60 and 70 Percent
Despite those conditions, demand remains at between 60 and 70 percent occupancy, according to the industry representative, who noted that activity continues with close attention to weather conditions.
Fernández said nautical service providers are running a preventive operation and prioritizing safety in case the weather changes.
The sector will remain alert to forecasts and to directives from maritime authorities in determining whether conditions allow operations to continue or expand during the season.
