Cancún, Mexico — In the face of one of the greatest current climate threats, which includes the tourism industry's responsibility for over 8% of global emissions and the alarming possibility of losing up to 40% of the Mexican Caribbean's beaches before 2050, Cancún is preparing to be the meeting point for business leaders, authorities, and specialists at the 2nd Quintana Roo Sustainability Forum 2025.
This important event will take place on November 19, under the motto "Building destinations that care for the future."
Tere De La Peña, President of Fundación Original, highlighted her organization's work over 15 years, focused on developing the Corporate Social Responsibility of Grupo Original. Its approach is divided into four lines of action: education, health and well-being, community engagement, and sustainability.
"We recognize with gratitude the commitment and trust of our benefactors, who make every project possible," commented De La Peña, emphasizing the importance of transparency and the responsible use of resources in accordance with the Foundation's guidelines.
She emphasized the mission to "draw smiles and leave a positive footprint," recalling the wise words of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, "Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier."
For her part, Patricia De La Peña, President of the Board of Directors of Original Group, stated that this initiative was born from the accumulated experience during the "Sustainable Weeks" organized by her group. "The goal is to strengthen collaboration between sectors to conserve natural resources," she affirmed.
Rodrigo De La Peña, President of the Cancún, Puerto Morelos, and Isla Mujeres Hotel Association (AHCPMIM), stressed that "sustainability should not be understood only as a trend, but as a strategy for competitiveness and permanence for the sector."
According to him, the responsibility of Quintana Roo's hotels lies in operating with respect for the natural environment and maintaining a vision for the future. "This forum allows us to share experiences, generate alliances, and move towards a more resilient and responsible tourism model," he concluded.
The 2nd Quintana Roo Sustainability Forum is carried out thanks to collaboration between various entities, including Original Group, The Palace Company, Grupo Iberostar, the Business Coordinating Council of the Caribbean (CCE), the National Association of Hotel Chains (ANCH), the Quintana Roo Vacation Clubs Association (ACLUVAQ), and other organizations committed to sustainability, sponsored by the financial group BBVA.
During the forum, technical opinion panels will be presented where attendees will explore new ways to address crucial topics such as financial inclusion and digitization with a sustainable focus, the conservation of coastal ecosystems, the circular economy applied to the tourism sector, and business leadership in regenerative tourism.
"The forum has established itself as a space for dialogue and collective action for those of us who believe that the future of tourism depends on our capacity to regenerate destinations and protect their environment," emphasized Engineer Javier Olvera Silveira, President of the CCE of the Caribbean.
The meeting, scheduled from 08:00 to 16:00 hours, will conclude with a Master Panel titled "Tourism Heritage: The New Generation of Leaders Speak," which will include representatives from The Palace Company, Grupo Lomas Travel, and Grupo Xcaret.
Throughout the event, various companies and organizations are expected to share success stories in their transition towards more sustainable practices, fostering the exchange of experiences and the formation of strategic alliances.
The 2nd Quintana Roo Sustainability Forum 2025 invites all those interested in integrating sustainability into their management models to participate. Aimed especially at the business, academic, and civil society sectors, as well as authorities, this event offers a unique opportunity to learn, collaborate, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
The participation fee is $600 MXN, which includes the comprehensive compensation of the carbon footprint generated by the event, thereby reaffirming the organizers' commitment to climate action.
