The Quintana Roo government is encouraging children and young people to participate in the regional stage of the World Robotics Olympiad (WRO). This initiative aims to foster a culture of scientific research and learning in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) fields. The Quintana Roo Council of Humanities, Sciences, and Technologies (Coqhcyt) is leading this effort.
The event, a collaborative effort between Coqhcyt, the Technological Institute of Chetumal, and Conalep Quintana Roo, will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024. It will take place at the Yook 'ol Kaab Planetarium and the Technological Institute of Chetumal.
The competition is open to elementary, middle, and high school students. To participate, students need to form teams of two to three people. They can compete in either the Robomission or Innovators categories.
Christopher Malpica Morales, the director of Coqhcyt, stated that this event is considered one of the most significant competitions in the robotics community. It's also one of the most challenging, as each year presents new challenges. Teams must create and program robots from scratch to autonomously solve these challenges.
Winners of the regional stage will advance to the national final, scheduled for September 2024. The location for the national final is yet to be determined. The top performers at the national level will form the Mexican Delegation, representing Mexico in the international final in Turkey in November 2024.
