Quintana Roo, Mexico — Quintana Roo has once again secured its place in the 2025 edition of the Michelin Guide Mexico, with several restaurants reaffirming their starred status and new accolades awarded to chefs and culinary projects. The recognition highlights the region’s growing prominence in Mexico’s gastronomic landscape.
Restaurants Retain Michelin Stars
Among the establishments that retained the stars awarded in previous years are:
- Cocina de Autor Riviera Maya in Playa del Carmen,
- Ha’, located at the Xcaret México hotel,
- Le Chique in Puerto Morelos.
The awards ceremony took place in Mexico City, where a significant moment unfolded as Chef Jonatán Gómez Luna of Le Chique received the Chef Mentor Award. Meanwhile, Cocina de Autor Riviera Maya earned the Hospitality and Service Team Award.
New Additions to the Guide
While the 2024 Michelin Guide recognized 88 restaurants for their culinary excellence, the 2025 edition expanded the list with 20 additional recommendations. Among the newcomers from Quintana Roo is Ki’is in Playa del Carmen.
Other Quintana Roo restaurants previously featured in the guide’s recommendations include:
- Axiote,
- Cocina de México,
- Cetli,
- Cocina de Campo by Agricole,
- Mestiza,
- Punta Corcho.
Boosting Gastronomic Tourism
Since Quintana Roo’s debut in the Michelin Guide in 2024, efforts to promote culinary tourism have intensified. The National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (Canirac) in Quintana Roo has initiated training programs for its members, aiming to help more restaurants qualify for Michelin stars or recommendations—particularly in Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cozumel, and Isla Mujeres.
Julio Villarreal Zapata, President of Canirac Quintana Roo and Cancún, emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards:
“We will continue striving to improve and prepare for anonymous inspectors, who must experience the same service as any diner at any time. This is what elevates us on a global scale.”
The Michelin Guide’s recognition underscores Quintana Roo’s emergence as a key destination for gourmet dining in Mexico.
