CHETUMAL — The state of Quintana Roo registered two new cases of COVID-19 during the two-week period from September 23 to October 6, with no new deaths reported, according to the latest report from the federal Secretary of Health. The state's Secretary of Health has ceased publishing its updated weekly report on the situation of the disease without explanation.
With the data from the federal report, dated through October 6, the number of registered infections in 2025 has reached 54 as of epidemiological week 40, while the number of fatalities for the year remains at eight.
The total accumulated cases since 2020 has now reached 124,613. The total accumulated deaths from the disease remains at 4,508.
Nationally, 6,736 people have been infected, while 225 deaths have been registered so far this year, with a higher incidence among older adults and women.
Due to the state health secretary's unexplained cessation of reporting, the average hospital occupancy rates in the northern and southern zones of the state during the final days of September and the first days of October are unknown. It is also unknown how many of the new cases reported in just over a month are active and under monitoring.
Prior to halting its weekly COVID-19 report, the state health secretary reported that the progress of vaccination remains at 3,658,148 vaccines administered from January 2021 to date. No new doses were added to the records in the most recent week, as the data from the seasonal vaccination campaign, which was underway, had not yet been added to the registry.
According to the last information provided by the state health secretary in March, the following vaccines have been administered by municipality: 218,317 in Cozumel; 161,810 in Felipe Carrillo Puerto; 42,844 in Isla Mujeres; 496,306 in Othón P. Blanco; and 1,759,900 in Benito Juárez.
