Quintana Roo Prosecutors Accused of Falsifying Homicide Data

Graphic showing discrepancy between reported and actual homicide numbers in Quintana Roo

Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP) today released crime incidence figures, exposing an alleged and blatant manipulation of data by the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).

While daily journalistic records documented that November 2025 was the most violent month of the year with 55 intentional homicides, the FGE officially reported only 20 cases to the SESNSP, creating a deficit of 35 crimes not counted in the official figure.

The discrepancy in official figures is a worrying indication of the lack of transparency in handling security information in the state.

The number of 20 homicides reported to the SESNSP is almost covered solely by those recorded in the municipality of Puerto Morelos, where ominously there were 18 during November, while in the municipality of Benito Juárez (Cancún) there were 15.

This suggests that the FGE omitted the vast majority of crimes occurring in a total of seven municipalities across the state.

The actual count for November reached 55 homicides, distributed as follows: 15 cases in Benito Juárez, 8 in Tulum, 7 in Playa del Carmen, and an alarming figure of 18 victims in Puerto Morelos.

Other municipalities such as Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Othón P. Blanco added three cases each, and Lázaro Cárdenas recorded one.

The severity of the omission is underscored by the case of the discovery in Puerto Morelos, where during November, at the Sac-Lol ranch in the same municipality, 16 skeletal remains were found.

While these cases may have occurred earlier, their counting or at least transparency in the month of discovery is critical.

The figure of 18 victims in Puerto Morelos, which includes crimes documented in public spaces, contrasts directly with institutional silence in the national report.

This serious omission, intentional or not, has been repeated each month throughout the year, and therefore today, both state and federal governments highlighted a 56.7% decrease in daily homicide figures this year, but with omissions like this, it remains an artificial statistic.

The disclosure of these falsified figures by the FGE undermines the credibility of authorities, hinders the true evaluation of security strategies, and generates impunity by minimizing the real magnitude of the violence crisis facing Quintana Roo.
