How to Register for Quintana Roo’s Mandatory Taxpayer Registry

Illustration of the Quintana Roo State Taxpayer Registry registration process

Quintana Roo, Mexico — The State Taxpayer Registry (REC) for Quintana Roo in 2026 has become one of the most consulted procedures on the Quintana Roo Tax Administration Service (SATQ) social media channels, after Governor Mara Lezama confirmed it will be essential for conducting the License Plate Renewal in the state.

Faced with public doubts about how to complete the procedure, what the digital file is for, and what documents are required, here is a clear and updated explanation of how to comply with this process and avoid fines or setbacks.

What You Need to Process the Quintana Roo REC

The online registration for the REC has been simplified. Currently, the only mandatory documents are:

  • Valid INE (National Electoral Institute ID)
  • CURP (Unique Population Registry Code)

The REC has become a process you must complete to be able to renew license plates in Quintana Roo. Unlike previous years, it is no longer necessary to have an RFC (Federal Taxpayer Registry) or a Tax Status Certificate to start the procedure, as the SATQ has enabled a new section to streamline the process and avoid platform congestion.

How to Update Your Tax Information in the REC

If you are already registered in the State Taxpayer Registry and now have your Tax Status Certificate, it is advisable to update your digital file.

Before starting, make sure you have:

  • Your REC number and password.
  • The Tax Status Certificate in PDF format.

Steps for the update:

  1. Enter the official SATQ portal: satq.qroo.gob.mx
  2. Access the REC section.
  3. Select the option “Update Tax Information.”
  4. Log in with your data and accept the privacy notice.
  5. Upload the PDF file of your Certificate.
  6. Save the changes and download the update receipt.

This step is important to keep your tax information current and facilitate future state procedures.

In-Person Support: Taxpayer Assistance Modules

For those having difficulties with the digital procedure, the SATQ has enabled assistance modules where trained personnel conduct the process directly.

At these modules, they will only ask for:

  • INE
  • CURP
  • Email address
  • Cell phone (it is essential to bring it, as you will receive a verification code)

This measure aims to support citizens and accelerate the process prior to the 2026 License Plate Renewal.

Why is the Quintana Roo REC 2026 Mandatory?

The REC is part of a strategy by the Quintana Roo Government to modernize procedures, reduce lines, eliminate excessive use of physical documents, and protect the personal data of the population.

Although it is a relatively new system and may cause confusion, authorities trust that, with the support of the modules and direct assistance, the process will be simpler and will allow for a more organized License Plate Renewal starting in January 2026.
