Quintana Roo Launches ‘The Power of Being a Woman’ Campaign for International Women’s Day

Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa presents The Power of Being a Woman campaign materials

Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Quintana Roo government launched “The Power of Being a Woman” campaign on International Women’s Day, aiming to highlight female leadership and recognize women’s growing role in decision-making positions across the state and country.

Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa presented the initiative as a tool for reflecting on historical barriers that restricted women’s participation in public and social life for decades. The campaign emphasizes that these limitations weren’t always legal but often manifested through “unwritten rules” that associated authority exclusively with male figures.

The campaign’s central message, “Women don’t ask for space, they’re occupying it,” seeks to project the current reality across various sectors. From government and classrooms to hospitals, businesses, and local communities, female presence has solidified as an active and transformative force in decision-making.

Officials noted that Quintana Roo is experiencing a historic moment by being led for the first time by a woman. For the state administration, this fact symbolizes a profound paradigm shift in political representation and the exercise of power.

One of the campaign’s pillars is combating stigmas traditionally used to hinder women’s advancement. Phrases like “it’s not your time,” “you’re not ready,” or “it’s not your place” are being redefined to transform into messages of possibility, merit, and progress.

The campaign proposes that March 8 should not be viewed as a festive celebration but as an exercise in memory and review. The goal is to recognize the path advanced by previous generations while maintaining the commitment to close gaps that still persist in the pursuit of a more equal society.
