Quintana Roo, Mexico — More than 65 beaches across Quintana Roo are now available for adoption by businesses, community groups, and environmental organizations committed to coastal conservation, officials announced.
The initiative, led by Mexico’s Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), aims to strengthen beach cleanup and preservation efforts through social participation. Companies, civil associations, and environmental groups can select a stretch of coastline and commit to keeping it free of waste for a designated period.
Registration involves submitting a request to the official email: adoptaunaplaya@semarnat.gob.mx. The federal agency has a digital platform detailing requirements, guidelines, and responsibilities for participants.
Available Beaches
The beaches eligible for adoption are located in the following municipalities:
- Benito Juárez (Cancún)
- Cozumel
- Isla Mujeres
- Othón P. Blanco
- Playa del Carmen (formerly Solidaridad)
- Puerto Morelos
- Tulum
How to Participate
The process includes formally submitting an application, defining the area to be maintained, and committing to regular cleaning and environmental care activities.
Keeping coastlines clean not only improves the state’s tourism image but also protects marine biodiversity, prevents pollution, and strengthens community well-being, officials said. Removing waste and promoting good environmental practices is key to preserving beaches for future generations.
