Quintana Roo Expands State Scholarships by 21%, Reaching 15,682 Students

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — The Quintana Roo state government has increased its scholarship program for basic-education students by 21 percent, expanding support to at least 15,682 students for the 2026-2027 school year, Education Secretary Elda Xix Euan announced.

The figure represents 3,325 more scholarships than the 2025-2026 roster. The increase was driven by higher demand during the registration period, which opened in the first two weeks of September through the Padres en Línea portal. Officials extended the registration window by an additional week so more families could apply.

Elda Xix Euan said the program is funded entirely by state resources.

“These scholarships come from a strictly state budget. The state government invests in children’s education, and today 15,682 basic-education students will benefit from these scholarships,” she said.

1,400 Pesos Per Student

Each beneficiary will receive 1,400 pesos across the five two-month periods that make up the school year. The money is intended to cover school expenses, allowing families to buy the supplies students need to stay in class, and to serve as an incentive for students to keep their grades up.

Applicants had to meet established requirements, including a passing grade point average and documented conditions of vulnerability.

Rural Communities Included for the First Time in 30 Years

Xix Euan said the program now includes students from rural communities for the first time in three decades, although she did not specify how many students from those areas will receive support.

She also noted that recipients of the state scholarship do not hold a federal scholarship, a criterion verified against the registry of applicants. The program is designed to extend financial support to more children and encourage them to continue their education.
