Cancún, Mexico — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has installed the inaugural State Council for Mental Health in the history of Quintana Roo. The council's purpose is to drive, promote, and strengthen coordinated actions for self-care and the prevention of various health conditions to benefit the well-being and quality of life of the population.
This collegiate body aims to strengthen coordination between federal, state, and municipal authorities to promote, support, and coordinate actions from the public, social, and private sectors. These actions are directed toward the prevention of various practices related to the care and prevention of mental health conditions and addictions.
"What we have just installed is not only a collegiate body; it is a network of wills that understands that mental health can no longer remain a pending issue," stated the Governor of Quintana Roo. She emphasized that health is fundamental for her government, which is committed to providing dignified care for it.
In this context, Governor Mara Lezama highlighted that mental health is an essential part of well-being. "There is no possible development when the soul is wounded or when the mind feels alone. That is why, from this humanist government with a feminist heart, we understand that addressing mental health is caring for life itself."
For his part, the Secretary of Health, Flavio Carlos Rosado, during his address, reaffirmed the commitment of this Council and the Secretary of Health (Sesa) to promote preventive programs, strengthen community psychological care, and guarantee that every Quintana Roo resident in need of support receives it with dignity. He indicated that preserving mental health is preserving life itself.
"Therefore, this Council will be a space to design and strengthen actions that promote the emotional and social well-being of citizens, with an integral, interdisciplinary, and profoundly human vision as our governor has instructed," he stated.
"Today we take a firm step to build a state that not only cures illnesses but also promotes the happiness, hope, and inner peace of its people," emphasized Flavio Carlos Rosado, adding: "To care is to transform.
