Cancún, Quintana Roo — Reynaldo Miguel Sebastián, the 53-year-old planning director for Quintana Roo’s Education Department (SEQ) in the state’s northern zone, was reported missing in Cancún and found the following night, authorities and a colleague said.

Family members filed a missing-person complaint with the State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE), which activated search file 223/FDN/2026 and asked the public for help in locating him.

According to official records, Sebastián was last seen on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. Authorities did not disclose the circumstances of his disappearance or release details about their investigation.

Political career and Morena ambitions

Beyond his post at the SEQ, Sebastián is known for helping found and organize the ruling party Morena in Quintana Roo. His disappearance came after he posted a message on social media seeking support in the party’s internal process, with the aim of pursuing a federal deputy candidacy. He had also been identified as an aspirant to the federal district coordination of the Defense of the Transformation for District 3 in Quintana Roo.

Search notice and description

The search notice described Sebastián as roughly 1.53 meters tall and about 80 kilograms, with a medium build, light brown skin, short black hair and dark brown eyes. He has scars on his left shoulder and on his right side at the ribs.

He was wearing a beige guayabera, a traditional embroidered shirt, with orange detailing, navy blue trousers, brown shoes and a black belt.

The prosecutor’s office asked anyone with information about his whereabouts to call (998) 881-7150, extension 2130.

Found safe

Sebastián was located on the night of Thursday, October 8, according to a coworker close to the official, who confirmed in a Facebook post that he had been found and was with his family.

“Our colleague and friend Reynaldo Miguel has been located,” the coworker wrote, sharing the search notice that had been circulated to request public assistance.
