Quintana Roo Reigns Supreme with Blue Flag Accolades

Mexico has achieved 120 new sustainability benchmarks, with the same number of applications for the Blue Flag award being approved. This recognition confirms the country's leading position in obtaining this prestigious accolade given to beaches, marinas, and boats that adhere to high standards and sustainable practices. Quintana Roo stands out as the clear leader among all regions.

According to data from the Ministry of Tourism, the Foundation for Environmental Education Mexico (FEE Mexico) has certified 78 beaches, 2 marinas, and 40 boats with the Blue Flag for the 2024-2025 period. This totals 120 "blue flags". Quintana Roo has certified 33 of the 78 beaches recognized nationwide and is the only state with boats carrying the "blue flag" throughout Mexico.

The Blue Flag program, initiated by FEE Mexico, aims to raise awareness about the importance of coastal ecosystems through environmental education practices. For this period, the Blue Flag beaches, marinas, and sustainable tourism vessels will commence their operations for the 2024-2025 season from 1st July onwards. FEE Mexico will also present the flags symbolizing environmentally responsible operations.
