In a recent ceremony at the Military Garrison in Cancun, 381 weapons were destroyed under the supervision of the National Defense Secretariat (SEDENA). The weapons, 299 short and 82 long, were either provided by civilian authorities or donated by the Secretariat of Citizen Security.
The Governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama Espinoza, attended the event and emphasized the importance of weapon destruction in the pursuit of peace. "By destroying weapons we build peace," the Governor stated.
The weapons were destroyed in accordance with established procedures. Personnel from the multidisciplinary team of the VII Military Region of Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, were present to oversee the process.
The ceremony was led by Division General DEM Ricardo Flores Gonzalez, commander of the 10th Military Region. Other notable attendees included Admiral CG DEM Abrahan Eloy Caballero Rosas, commander of the 9th Naval Region; Brigadier General DEM Jose Luis Martinez Rojas, state coordinator of the National Guard; and Carlos Tobilla Padilla, head of the Attorney General's Office of Quintana Roo.
Also in attendance were the municipal president Ana Patricia Peralta de la Peña, the State Attorney General Raciel López Salazar, and the Secretary of Citizen Security Julio César Gómez Torres. These individuals, along with other civilian authorities, represent the security and peacebuilding efforts in the region.
