CANCÚN, Q. ROO — The state government is finalizing preparations for the 2026 vehicle re-registration process, set to begin next January, and the Quintana Roo Tax Administration Service (Satqroo) is urging taxpayers to settle their outstanding payments before December 31.
The intention is for residents to take advantage of subsidies and benefits that will be in effect during the first months of the year, stated the head of the agency, Héctor Contreras.
The public official reported that a 40 percent discount on the payment of the car ownership tax, known as tenencia, is still available. This incentive is part of the state government's measures to support family economies.
"We are closing the year with very positive revenue collection, having reached 77 percent of our goals, and we are confident we will close the fiscal year meeting the objectives set by the administration of Governor Mara Lezama," Contreras said.
Individuals who are current with their tax obligations will be eligible for a 100 percent subsidy on the payment of the tenencia during the months of January, February, and March of 2026, when the license plate change takes place.
Regarding the cost of the new license plates, Contreras clarified that the amount will be announced once the state Congress approves the fiscal package for the upcoming year.
Héctor Contreras reported that the state vehicle registry is currently 85 percent updated, a result of a process to purge inactive records inherited from previous administrations.
Residents who live in Quintana Roo but still use license plates from other states were encouraged to update their tax address. This will allow them to access the benefits of the re-registration program and, at the same time, contribute to strengthening local revenue collection.
Furthermore, Contreras denied versions that have circulated on social media regarding the supposed installation of vehicle verification centers related to the re-registration process.
"No project exists in that regard," he stated, and called on citizens to stay informed exclusively through official channels and accounts.
