Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office has seized a real estate development site in Cancún after a court-authorized search uncovered evidence of potential environmental crimes.
The operation took place in the Alfredo V. Bonfil area of Benito Juárez municipality, with support from the Mexican Navy and National Guard. It followed a citizen complaint about unauthorized land clearing, brush cutting, and heavy machinery use on the property.
During the search, investigators from the State Prosecutor’s Office and specialists from the Quintana Roo College of Biologists assessed the site to determine the extent of environmental impact. Authorities identified signs of ecosystem damage and found the project lacked required municipal and state permits.
The property showed paved areas and construction progress, strengthening investigative lines related to potential irregularities in urban development and environmental protection.
After the operation, authorities secured the property while continuing their investigation to determine responsibility. The State Prosecutor’s Office stated such actions are part of its strategy to combat environmental crimes and ensure legal compliance in real estate projects.
The case remains under review to determine potential sanctions under Quintana Roo’s current legislation.
