QUINTANA ROO, Mexico — Athletes from Quintana Roo have demonstrated their high level of competition in large-scale international events, with three state competitors delivering outstanding performances for the Mexican delegation at the recent Asunción 2025 Junior Pan American Games in Paraguay.
Andrés Dupont, Jerónimo Abogado, and Sofía del Paso Montero not only showcased their talent but also gained valuable experience at the games. The Quintana Roo State Sports Commission (CODEQ), presided over by Jacobo Arzate Hop, is tasked with providing tools to the state's athletes to help them achieve their sporting goals, as established by the New Agreement for Wellbeing and Development promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa.
Regarding the competition results, swimmer Andrés Dupont was the most distinguished. His performance in Asunción earned him four medals: two silver and two bronze. Of these, one was an individual medal and three were team medals, resulting in a very positive outcome.
One of his silver medals was won in the men's 100-meter freestyle individual event, and another silver was obtained in the 4×200-meter freestyle team relay. He also secured two bronze medals in team events: one in the men's 4×100-meter medley relay and another in the mixed 4×100-meter freestyle relay.
Furthermore, Quintana Roo was represented in the Sailing discipline by two athletes. The first was Jerónimo Abogado, who demonstrated his experience in all the regattas he competed in. He finished in fifth place in the men's iQFoil event.
Finally, Sofía del Paso Montero, from Playa del Carmen, demonstrated her skill in each regatta of the ILCA 6 boat competition, where she finished in 17th place in her classification, but acquired valuable experience.
It is important to note that both Jerónimo and Sofía, with their results in this competition, qualified for the next 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, which will be held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
