Chetumal – Puerto Morelos Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz confirmed that Matías “N”, a member of the Navy Secretariat who was recently detained for the crime of resisting authority, has regained his freedom. However, she reported that the sailor has ceased to serve as head of the C2, a position that currently remains vacant.
According to the mayor, the decision responds to the fact that he cannot continue in a strategic position after the episode that led to his arrest.
Tziu Muñoz explained that, according to the reports she received, the sailor had no connection with the operation in which Elías Alejandro “A”, alias El Danone, alleged plaza boss of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, was captured.
She recounted that Matías “N” was in the vicinity of the operation accompanied by his family and carrying a weapon with a permit; however, when authorities requested his cooperation in a search, he refused. The subsequent discussion ended in his detention. “It should serve as a wake-up call for all personnel who carry weapons,” she emphasized.
The mayor maintained that the participation of military personnel in municipal and state security tasks has been positive, but insisted that personnel must act responsibly and follow protocols without exception.
The removal of the C2 coordinator, she said, is to remind those who hold sensitive functions that they must meet a standard of conduct that guarantees trust within the corporations and toward the citizenry.
Faced with the increase in criminal incidents recorded in recent months in Puerto Morelos, Tziu Muñoz advanced that there is a proposal to invest more than 40 million pesos in strengthening the surveillance system, patrols, and police equipment.
The objective, she indicated, is to reinforce security for both the local population and national and foreign visitors, in a municipality that continues under pressure from criminal activity.
