PUERTO MORELOS — Municipal President Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz and the head of the State Water and Sewer Commission (CAPA), Hugo Garza, have inaugurated the "Temporary Water Culture Exhibition."

“Access to water is a human right that, as an authority, we are obligated to guarantee for the population, as it represents not only an economic good but an indispensable social and cultural right for life,” stated Municipal President Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz during the inauguration of the Temporary Water Culture Exhibition Hall, organized by the State Water and Sewer Commission (CAPA) of the Quintana Roo Government.

In this context, the Mayor expressed gratitude that Puerto Morelos was chosen to join the reflection and dialogue that this exhibition will generate regarding water conservation. “A meeting that should lead us to an awareness of the urgency of preserving the vital liquid and of the actions that, individually and collectively, we can undertake for its care,” she expressed.

For his part, the Director General of CAPA, Hugo Garza Sáenz, highlighted the importance of generating awareness about the fact that “the only source of fresh water for human consumption in the Yucatán Peninsula is beneath our land, in the marvelous aquifer we have.”

Garza Sáenz emphasized that this temporary space opening in Puerto Morelos for the dissemination of water culture is of great relevance and could become permanent, with the purpose of bringing it to communities such as Leona Vicario, Central Vallarta, Delirios, and across the entire geography of the municipality.

He added that children and youth will be able to enjoy the activities and dynamics focused on the care of the aquifer and its coastal systems.

The state official explained that, under the instruction of Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, the Quintana Roo Government has invested 1 million 599 thousand pesos in water culture programs during the current administration to date. A total of 306 talks have been delivered, benefiting more than 10,700 people, in addition to 106 talks in schools, which have reached 4,032 students, among other actions like the exhibition now established in Puerto Morelos.

The head of Environment, Animal Welfare, and Sustainable Mobility, Aimee Regina Rodríguez Vivas, while welcoming those present, highlighted the commitment to learn, reflect, and act in favor of one of the territory's most precious assets: water.

“Here, water does not only flow through our pipes; it runs through our memories, our daily practices, and our hopes. That is why this space, although temporary, has a vocation for permanence in the hearts of those who will visit it,” she stated.

Present at the inauguration were the Coordinator of Citizen Participation and Communication of CAPA, Miguel Ángel Hernández Contreras; the Director of Environment, Michel Mesta Delgado; Professor María Ramírez Miranda; students from Secondary School No. 7; Marisol Foyo Niembro, General Director of the Puerto Morelos Cultural Center and Museum, among other municipal officials and the general public.
