Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — The destination began 2026 with positive results in security and tourism, recording zero incidents during the New Year celebrations and hotel occupancy close to 90 percent, reflecting institutional coordination and calls for responsible celebration.

Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz highlighted that these results stem from the planning of the surveillance operation, the “If you drink, don’t drive” campaign, and the permanent presence of authorities on beaches, tourist areas, delegations, and neighborhoods. The deployment involved around 140 personnel among police, Navy, Civil Protection, Firefighters, and volunteers, supported by 20 units.

“Guaranteeing the security of Puerto Morelos residents and visitors is a priority. Today we see the benefits: order, tranquility, and hotel occupancy of 90 percent in 7,900 rooms, which strengthens the municipality’s economy,” emphasized the mayor.

The Secretary of Sustainable Tourism, Raúl Guadarrama García, reported that hotel occupancy reached 90.8 percent, surpassing the 77.1 percent from 2025. He noted that visitors primarily come from within the country, the United States, and Canada, driven by the region’s high air connectivity during the winter season.

Regarding security, Secretary Manuel Alejandro Nava García confirmed zero incidents, with only four referrals for administrative violations, and announced that the Guadalupe-Reyes Operation will continue until January 6, with joint participation from the Secretariat of Citizen Security and the Navy. He also highlighted the special deployment to safeguard those who went to the Fishermen’s Pier to receive the first rays of the year’s sun.

Civil Protection, led by Antonio Domínguez Olán, reported that despite the increase in bathers—from 2,250 to 3,250 people daily—no significant incidents were recorded in Puerto Morelos or Leona Vicario. Surveillance included lifeguards, new towers, land patrols, and constant presence at high-traffic points.

In public services, the municipality maintained uninterrupted garbage collection, essential during the high season. During Christmas, 70 tons of waste were collected, and a similar volume is estimated for New Year, 50 percent above usual, ensuring cleanliness and order in the destination.

With these results, Puerto Morelos consolidates itself as a municipality that combines security, citizen responsibility, and tourism strength, starting the year with stability and confidence for residents and visitors.
