Puerto Morelos Announces Road Closures for Sunday’s ‘Carrera por la Felicidad’ Family Run

Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — Authorities in Puerto Morelos have announced road closures for this Sunday’s “Carrera por la Felicidad” (Race for Happiness), a family-friendly running event expected to draw thousands of participants.

Traffic police will oversee the event to ensure safety and proper traffic management during the three-hour competition. Officials are urging motorists to plan ahead and use alternate routes while the closures are in effect.

Affected Streets

The event will take place in Puerto Morelos’ Casco Antiguo (Old Town) area. The following streets will be closed to vehicle traffic from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. on Sunday:

  • Rafael E. Melgar (near the pier and finish line area)
  • Javier Rojo Gómez (main route)
  • Isla Mujeres
  • José María Morelos

Normal traffic flow will resume once the event concludes at 9:00 a.m.

Event Details

The Carrera por la Felicidad features two main routes that will run simultaneously: a 3-kilometer course and a 5-kilometer course. Runners on the 5-kilometer route will complete specific turnaround points marked along the course to finish their second lap.

The event will include strategically placed hydration stations and first aid posts, particularly near the finish line area. Organizers describe the event as a family-oriented activity designed to promote physical activity and community engagement.
