Playa del Carmen, QRoo — The Puerto Aventuras borough of Playa del Carmen celebrated its fourth anniversary on Tuesday with an official ceremony held at the civic plaza dome.
Municipal trustee José Agustín Aguilar, who attended representing Mayor Estefanía Mercado, described Puerto Aventuras as “a hardworking, supportive, and proud community, made up of families, young people, and merchants who contribute daily to the municipality’s development.”
The ceremony brought together municipal authorities, councilors, and community residents. Aguilar emphasized that the Playa del Carmen government maintains as its central axis governing by putting the people at the center, with honesty, closeness, and results.
He also conveyed to attendees a warm greeting from Mayor Mercado, as well as her recognition and permanent commitment to Puerto Aventuras, highlighting the importance of this borough as a result of organization and citizen struggle for a government closer and more sensitive to people’s needs.
José Agustín Aguilar reaffirmed that the government led by Estefanía Mercado will continue strengthening citizen participation, promoting development with social justice, and building well-being for everyone in Puerto Aventuras, while expressing: “Long live Puerto Aventuras, long live its people, and may we continue moving forward together.”
In this context, Puerto Aventuras Mayor Gilberto Gómez recalled the historical process that gave rise to the borough, noting that it was on December 18, 2021 when, by decision of the then City Council, the conversion was achieved.
He emphasized that this achievement allowed leaving historical backwardness behind and consolidating a new stage of coordinated work with the Playa del Carmen municipal government.
At the end of the event, authorities carried out the traditional lighting of the Christmas tree, and attendees enjoyed an artistic and cultural festival as part of the Magical Christmas program organized by the Playa del Carmen government.
