Progreso Businesses Anticipate Strong Sales as 22 Cruise Ships Arrive in March

Progreso, Yucatan — Local businesses and tourism service providers in Progreso are optimistic about strong sales and profits this March as 22 cruise ships are scheduled to dock at the port, coinciding with Lent weekends and Easter holidays.

While the number represents five fewer arrivals than February and six fewer than January, it matches last March’s figures and remains above the 2026 average of 15 ships per month, translating to roughly four vessels weekly.

Tourism service providers and restaurant owners along the waterfront emphasized that the cruise traffic combines positively with hot weather and the start of Lent, creating a favorable economic impact.

“Sales and consumption along the waterfront will be widely benefited, so with more ships, the prosperity is expected to be much greater,” they reiterated.

According to sector worker Elías Castro, cruise arrivals will generate profits that add to the economic spillover from local and national tourists drawn by the rising heat, Lent, and the upcoming Easter vacation period.
