PRI Unveils ‘Defenders of Mexico’ Strategy for 2027 Elections, Names Key Figures in Quintana Roo

PRI national leader Alejandro Moreno presents the 'Defenders of Mexico' strategy for the 2027 elections

Mexico City — The Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) has launched its national reorganization strategy ahead of the 2027 elections, presenting a group of political figures it calls the “Defenders of Mexico” who will seek to regain ground from the ruling Morena party.

National PRI leader Alejandro Moreno led the presentation of the party’s strategy, which targets 17 states where gubernatorial races will be held in 2027. Moreno emphasized that the party aims not only to compete but to consolidate a position of closeness to citizens with its own candidates and a renewed structure across the country.

Key Figures in Quintana Roo

For the key state of Quintana Roo, Moreno named three prominent local figures: deputy Filiberto Martínez, former gubernatorial candidate Leslie Hendricks, and current state party president Cora Amalia Castilla.

The announcement also highlighted strategic figures in other states:

  • Nuevo León: Adrián de la Garza
  • Chihuahua: Alejandro Domínguez and Antonio Meléndez
  • Guerrero: Manuel Añorve, María del Pilar Vadillo, and Alejandro Bravo
  • Michoacán: Adriana Hernández, Guillermo “Memo” Valencia, and Edna Martínez
  • Querétaro: A substantial group including Adriana Meza, Manuel Montes, and Abigail Arredondo, among others

Response to Criticism

When questioned about potential premature campaign activities, Moreno was firm in stating that this announcement does not violate electoral law, calling it a “socialization” of internal party decisions. In contrast, he accused Morena of consistently engaging in proselytizing practices outside legal timeframes across the country.

“We PRI members are the defenders of Mexico; we have been in good times and bad. We will continue to be so now that the country faces a cynical, corrupt, and incapable government like Morena,” the leader stated.

The PRI announced this is only the first stage of its expansion plan. In the coming months, the party plans to open selection processes for citizen candidates, aiming to integrate sympathizers and external profiles to broaden its political base ahead of what it calls a crucial election for the country’s democratic future.
