Authorities at the Social Reintegration Center (CERESO) in Cancun are under threat after a message was published, allegedly from a criminal group, demanding changes in the prison's management. The message, which has been circulated on WhatsApp and other social media platforms, has not been definitively traced back to its source. However, it is suspected to have been created by individuals associated with organized crime or a criminal group operating from the jail in the municipality of Benito Juárez.

The message accuses the prison authorities of corruption, mistreatment of inmates, and human rights violations within the Cancun municipal prison. It contains a direct threat to the prison director and staff, stating that if their demands are not met, they will resort to violence in Cancun's hotel zone.

The message reads, in part: "Cancun Cereso director, this is the only message I am going to send you. Today they beat my brother… we are going to throw [the heads of your guards] in the hotel zone if they do not… dismiss the Deputy Director."

In addition to this threat, women from the municipality of Cozumel have also sought help from the government of Governor Mara Lezama Espinoza. They wrote a handwritten letter detailing allegations of sexual exploitation by the Deputy Director of Penitentiary Security, Sergio Alcala Ancona. The letter alleges that Ancona has offered inmates items such as beds, fans, grills, or televisions in exchange for sexual favors.

The letter pleads for intervention, stating: "We beg you, we implore you to cut off this matter and end our nightmare… we have already had to attend to two fellows among ourselves who have had to cut themselves with him."

The situation at the Cancun prison is clearly escalating, with threats of violence and allegations of corruption and sexual exploitation. The authorities must address these issues promptly to ensure the safety of both the inmates and the wider community.
