Riviera Maya, QR — Police are searching for the owner of a truck found overturned and abandoned on a highway in the Riviera Maya. The damaged truck was located on Friday night near Punta Venado, approximately 18 kilometers south of Playa del Carmen.
Other drivers who witnessed the truck leave the road and roll over also saw the driver exit and walk away staggering. Motorists who stopped to try to help called 9-1-1 due to the severity of the accident.
Preliminary information indicates that the driver was heading toward Playa del Carmen when the truck left the road and rolled at least twice before landing in a grassy area.
Police found the destroyed and abandoned vehicle missing a rear wheel on the night of Friday, January 23, 2026. Authorities were able to locate the gray Nissan Frontier that was found destroyed.
Authorities are searching for the driver of the vehicle that was found abandoned in the ditch. The National Highway Guard secured the area on Friday night until a tow truck arrived to remove the truck.
