Over 400 drug doses seized in Cancún crackdown

Law enforcement agencies maintaining vigilance in Cancún during drug operations

Cancún, Quintana Roo — In further evidence of the serious narcomenudeo problem in the streets of this tourist destination, police and military corporations detected in recent hours more than 400 doses of drugs during the detention of members of criminal groups at different points in the city.

Municipal Police elements reported the detention of nine people, seven men and two women, in two groups that were dedicated to drug sales in Supermanzanas 90 and 91, as a result of a surveillance operation in coordination with personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) and the National Guard.

In a first intervention, the elements located five people who were in front of a vacant lot in Supermanzana 90, where they were exchanging small bags with alleged illicit substances, for which they proceeded to search them.

In this way, four men and one woman, identified as Marco “N”, Luis “N”, Óscar “N”, José “N” and Valeria “N” were caught with 199 small bags of marijuana, 36 wrappers with fragments of the drug known as crystal, and 66 doses of cocaine, as well as a bank terminal for receiving card payments.

The five detained persons were made available to the Public Ministry for crimes against health in the modality of narcomenudeo.

In another surveillance patrol in the same area of the city, municipal police reported the detention of three men and one woman in alleged narcomenudeo activities in the vicinity of Supermanzana 91.

The uniformed officers had the support of FGE agents and National Guard elements in this mobilization, in which they detected the four people exchanging small bags with alleged illicit substances.

During the search, the elements secured in this case 105 plastic bags with green and dry herb similar to marijuana, and 66 bags with white stones with characteristics of the drug known as crack. For this reason, the four people were detained: Laura “N”, Ángel “N”, Ignacio “N” and Jesús “N”, who are under investigation.
