Mysterious Ocean Springs Disappear Post Hurricane!

The tropical cyclone's passage through Quintana Roo caused the recently emerged ocean springs to fill with sand. These remarkable "ocean springs" first appeared at the end of June 2024 in the sea of Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo. However, they vanished after Hurricane Beryl hit Mexico. The hurricane was a category 2 on the Saffir-Simpson scale when it made landfall in the early hours of last Friday.

Just a few weeks prior, social media users had documented the appearance of these "ocean springs". This phenomenon, known as upwellings, was observed both in the sea of Playa del Carmen and in Cozumel. Their emergence captivated both locals and tourists.

TikTok user Chacho Rivera shared videos showing the water's emergence. These videos captured the formation of a strong current in the open sea, which resulted in the creation of the "ocean springs".
