Playa del Carmen’s Piñata Market Turns 5

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — In an atmosphere of joy, tradition, and community fellowship, the Directorate of Markets for the Municipality of Playa del Carmen celebrated the fifth anniversary of the Mundo de las Piñatas Market, an emblematic space that forms part of the economic and cultural identity of the Bellavista neighborhood.

During the event, the Director of Markets, Jesús Pérez Ayala, representing the Secretary of Economic Development and Investment Attraction, Antón Bojórquez, recognized the effort of the market vendors who, day by day, contribute to the support of their families and to local economic development.

The official stated that, following the instruction of Municipal President Estefanía Mercado, the current administration prioritizes the strengthening of markets, spaces where the community finds fresh products, delicious food, and a close, authentic experience.

In her address, Ninth Councilwoman Marian Solís Arriaga recognized that this anniversary is the result of the dedication of the merchants, reiterating her commitment to the market's development.

For her part, Seventh Councilwoman Xelha Dehesa underlined the importance of collaboration between the government and citizens, highlighting the resilience of the vendors in keeping their businesses active despite challenges.

Finally, representing the Mundo de las Piñatas Market Committee, América Marín Reyes thanked the loyalty of the customers, whom she considered fundamental to the continuity of the venue. She also highlighted the daily dedication of the vendors to always provide a quality space for local consumption.

The celebration began with a greeting to the seven cardinal points. Subsequently, attendees enjoyed a varied artistic and cultural program that included pre-Hispanic fusion music, ranchero singing, Mexican folk dance, live jazz, and interactive activities with consumers.

Talks were also offered on the conservation of cenotes and the promotion of reading, fostering environmental and cultural education among the participants.

The celebration concluded with the traditional cake cutting and a recognition of the founders and vendors who have contributed to the market's growth since its opening, reaffirming its role as a living space of culture, work, and tradition in Playa del Carmen.
