Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Playa del Carmen Youth Symphony performed at the Autonomous University of the State of Quintana Roo (UQROO) as part of a cultural promotion initiative led by Mayor Estefanía Mercado’s administration.

The event stemmed from a collaboration agreement between the university and the municipal government. Ernesto Santiago Martínez Cuéllar, Director General of the Playa del Carmen Municipal Institute of Culture and Arts (IMCAP), said the performance demonstrates outreach to student communities. “For us, it is a source of pride and honor to have this type of presentation,” he added.

Under the direction of professor Liliam Lima, the orchestra performed classics including the theme from “The Godfather” by Italian composer Nino Rota, “Clocks” by Coldplay, a medley of popular Mexican melodies, and classics from Disney films.

The artistic program also featured two dance numbers: “Las Chiapanecas” and “Rolling in the Deep” by British singer Adele, performed by UQROO students from Business Engineering, Hospitality, Law, and Administration programs across various semesters, accompanied by the youth symphony.

Throughout the university’s main auditorium, the exhibition “Essence of Woman” displayed paintings, prints, and sculptures, commemorating the ongoing struggle for equal rights in society during this month of historical and contemporary advocacy.
